We are worried about “the cow” when it is all about the “Ice Cream”

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president.

We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia’s mother.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium.

Her speech was concise. She said, “If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.” She sat down. The class went wild. “Yes! Yes! We want ice cream.”

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn’t sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn’t know. The class really didn’t care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.

Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, fifty percent of the people react like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other fifty percent know they’re going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

…this is the mindset of many Obama supporters:

They are in for a rude awakening. He cannot do what he promises.

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the word ‘billion’ in a casual manner, think about whether you want the ‘politicians’ spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let’s take a look at New Orleans. It’s amazing what you can learn with some simple division. Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?

Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?

Here’s the thing. Black people are notorious for using the “N” word, but no one else is supposed to…everyone knows this, but no one will say it. So…the bar owner is black. According to their own “rules”, he should be able to use the “N” word.

My take? If you don’t want to be called a nigger, don’t call each other niggers. Don’t use it in your songs, don’t change it to a softer form like “nigga”…just stop using it. It’s either an insult or not. It can’t be an insult if I say it, but not if Snoop Dog says it. I grew up hearing Richard Pryor say it and Eddie Murphy say it and just about every black comic, except Bill Cosby…who, I think makes the most sense of anyone of that race.

There are lots of things people say to hurt someone. Call them fat, or ugly or diss their mother. I have been called all sorts of hurtful and offensive things. But, my Mama said that “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” In other words, grow up and consider the source.

So. Since there is a Miss Black America contest and for blacks only magazines, and for blacks only churches…let’s have a for blacks only election. You folks have a vote and decide:

Is the word Nigger/Nigga offensive and should it be stricken from the language for EVERYONE, or not? If so…stop using it. ALL of you. It’s either OK or not. If not, when someone of a different color uses it? You need to drink a big frothy mug of Shut The Fuck Up and get over yourselves.

Martin Luther King, Jr was an awesome man. And a wonderful role model for anyone, of any color. And I would bet every cent in my bank account that he would be disappointed…more likely, embarrassed…horrified, even…at what his “brothers” have morphed into.

He would be indignant, at first…watching the news: “Why are they arresting that young black man?? Oh…he took that bicycle that didn’t belong to him? And the police saw him do it? Oh. Well, why’d he do THAT? Hey…why are they arresting those two young black women? Wait…is that them there? On that film…you call it a video? They…they’re…shoving a gun under that boy’s nose and taking money from a sandwich store? Why’d they do THAT? Hey, now…why are they telling the police and the public to report any three young black men standing outside a convenience store? That is not right…it’s called racial profiling? Well, good name for it…oh, you say there have been seven robberies of convenience stores in that area in the last week…and they were all committed by the same group of three young black men? Again, on tape? Oh…well, then…”

Then he would find out how the victim mentality and the gangs have all but taken over a once proud race. He would be ashamed to learn that after all this time the leaders in this community continue to blame all their problems on being put into slavery…which stopped a hundred years ago. And segregation, and fewer opportunities…both of which have not only stopped, but reversed many years ago. When he was told about the Miss Black America contest, he would want to know why on earth anyone ever started a Miss White America contest…”Oh, well, there wasn’t…a black woman can win that, too!” The same with scholarship programs. Some programs available only to certain minorities, but none are “just for whites”. Because. That would be “racist”.

I’m not saying anything should be “just for whites”. So get over it. And don’t even go there. I am the least bigoted person you will ever know. My issue, and I am POSITIVE Rev. King’s would be too, is reverse discrimination. It is NOT fair. You can’t use the same wrong done to a group of people over and over…and keep calling olly-olly-oxen-free on all the wrongs you commit.

What do I want? I want people, of all colors, all races, all languages…to teach their children respect. Respect for their elders. Respect for hard work. Respect for right and wrong. I want to know that when I hear a news report that two black men punched a woman in the face and took her purse, that those men would have Mamas at home that would be ashamed. Instead, I guarantee their Mamas would be proud of those boys. They’d be at the courthouse telling everyone how it’s not their boys’ fault. It’s probably the woman’s fault for having a purse.

Well, their Mamas may be proud. But I bet Rev. King wouldn’t be.

This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple.

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to “print” it myself by sending it out on the Internet.

Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren’t being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today’s American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages was looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country’s flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2007 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I’m sorry, that’s not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900’s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn’t start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

Bravo, Rosemary, Bravo!!!

I didn’t write this, but I agree:

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with
seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds
started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and
next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the
patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere. Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I
had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and
loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of
the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took
down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the
patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be…quiet, serene and
no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see…our government gives out free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an
automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands.
Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services, small apartments
are housing 5 families, you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an
emergency room doctor, your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other
schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English. Corn Flakes
now come in a bilingual box; I have to press “one” to hear my bank talk
to me in English, and people waving flags other than “Old Glory” are
squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free
liberties.

Maybe it’s time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Good grief! Moving sucks as it is, and then you have to deal with people digging through the garbage you put out for the big pick up.

OK, let’s just say, I am pissed. I honestly do not care if they want to look through the stuff for something salvageable. Nope, it was not animals, because the holes were at the top of the bags, not the bottom. Dogs and raccoons are discriminate. They sniff first, then chew to find food…to live. And when homeless folks dig through, they look for bottles and cans and they don’t dump everything out on the ground looking. I never even know they were there. They are polite. Trying to live. Not just making a mess.

This was NOT homeless people, or animals. It was mainly two ethnic groups, looking for stuff to sell. If I knew how to write in either language, I would have left a note that said “The good stuff went to the charities. This is garbage!! Leave it alone!” Better yet, go back and make a mess in your own fucking country, you ungrateful illegal fucks.

My neighbor saw them the night before, and stared at them til they left. That night they only left tiny holes, but obviously man-made holes. Then next night they went all out. They tore the bags wide open and threw stuff all over the neighborhood. I spent over an hour yesterday, when I was already exhausted [from trying to pare down a 4 bedroom household to a two bedroom one], REbagging garbage because of those ratfuckers tearing through it.

I hope someday someone makes a mess they have to clean up when every piece of them aches like fire and they only want to stop, but have to keep going. Maybe that will be the Hell they burn in. They deserve it.
